Mauldin City Hall

Here’s a recap of the May 15 meeting of the Mauldin City Council.

Initial Approval: $38.1 million 2023-24 Budget

Council gave initial approval to the city’s $38.1 million 2023-24 budget, which includes a measure to establish an $11.50 flat sewer maintenance fee for all users.

While the city is establishing a flat fee, commercial users will see a 15% increase in their sewer maintenance fees.

The fee change will go into effect on July 1 and is expected to generate $300,000 in revenue for the city to maintain and update its sewer infrastructure.

This item will go before the council on June 19 for final approval.

Approved: $1.16 million grant toward Oak Park Stormwater Project

Council approved a request to receive a $1.16 million grant from the South Carolina Office of Resilience.

The funds come from the American Rescue Plan Act Stormwater Infrastructure Program and will be used towards the city’s Oak Park Stormwater Project, which includes the restoration of a drainage network that travels through Springfield Park, across Oak Park, and down Elkwood Street.

By accepting this grant, the city will have to match the provided funds and cover any overage costs.

Approved: Over $10.6K to replace Public Works facility fencing

Council approved a contract with Seegars Fence Company to replace fencing at the city’s Public Works facility on East Standing Springs Road.

The project is expected to cost over $10,600 and will include:

  • Removing a portion of the existing fence
  • Installing eight-foot fencing around the new brush laydown yard
  • Installing a new gate
