Regional emergency responders will be conducting training drills at the former hospital building on the Bob Jones University campus May 16 and May 18 and involving a variety of agencies from across the area.

The training drills will focus on responding to a suspected weapons of mass destruction scenario and are expected to run from about 8:30 a.m. until mid-afternoon Tuesday and Thursday.

Tuesday’s training will involve SWAT, bomb squad and Hazardous Materials teams training to respond to an active threat and identifying hazards.

Thursday’s training will involve teams responding to the same site for a simulated explosion.

The public is advised to be aware the training will entail the presence of a large number of emergency vehicles on the university’s campus for much of the day Tuesday and Thursday.
