The city of Greenville is looking for a contractor to oversee the $1.4 million improvement project for Gower Park.
Moving forward with the park’s renovation plans, the city opened a bid request for qualified contractors on May 1. The deadline for bids is May 25.
The improvements to Gower Park, which is located at 24 Evelyn Ave., include the demolition of the existing tennis and basketball courts followed by the construction of:
- Three new tennis courts
- Two new basketball courts
- 10 new pickle ball courts
Additional elements of the project include the striping and resurfacing of the 65,000-square-foot parking lot, erosion and sediment control, concrete sidewalks, landscaping, and curb and gutter work.
To fund a portion of this project, a $500,000 grant was provided by the South Carolina Department of Parks, Recreation and Tourism’s Federal Land and Water Conservation Fund.
The city also approved the appropriation of $950,000 from the second round of the Neighborhood Improvement Bond to complete the required 1:1 matching requirement with the SCPRT.
